Finally completed building this kit. WIP here: http://dnnychan.wordpress.com/category/pg/pg-astray-red-frame/
Really amazing kit, and would really like my friends for getting me this (half a year ago…). I don’t think it’s perfect, but I honestly can’t spend any more time on this. Building a kit exclusively is pretty tiring. I tried to fix most of the parts, but the wash I really need to work on, and the topcoat is…alright. Whatever. Photodump!
I’ve been playing a lot of Pokemon lately. I mean a lot. Platinum, Crystal, Black, yep. Not really for competitive play, but more so to relive my childhood. Every kid grew up with something, some sort of trend that helped define them, something they can look back to in 10, 20, 30 years and say “god, I miss that so much”. I’m embarrassed when people ask me which Pokemon I started on, because it was Silver, and not Red/Blue. I get shivers when I listen to the first opening of Pokemon.
A lot of the stuff such as games builds on what came before it, like how Black Ops is MW2, but better. I can hardly tell them apart. There’s no reason to go back. But old games, like Ocarina of Time? Fuck yeah. I just fought Ganondorf again earlier today. Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker are both different enough from OoT for me not to simply call the newest Zelda game my favourite. You don’t need fancy graphics, have 20 thousand people on multiplayer for a game to be good.
Everything is based off multiplayer, getting as many kills and EXP so you can use that new equipment, or get that achievement. But what happened to good old single player? Talking to your friends to figure out how to get past a section? I remember playing NFS3 with my friend because it had split screen and we’d race so we could unlock the fastest car in the game. 8 tracks, 12 or so cars in total, 8 of which are too slow to use, and 2 obviously outclassed by the remaining 2. Did we need 1000 to have fun? Not really. The thrill of trying to beat CPUs while making sure your friend wasn’t completely getting owned either was more than enough.
“What do you mean you’re stuck on “No Russian”? Psh are you noob or something?” is pretty much what it comes down to if you can’t beat a stage in a game. That and FAQs. When I couldn’t beat the Water Temple, I asked my friend over to help me. I had to save state so many times to make sure I got that Lugia.
Games need to focus less on multiplayer and the internet and back to single player. I doubt I’ll remember when I broke that Ubered Soldier in pl_badwater, but I do remember my team when I beat the Elite Four for the first time. I do remember that I somehow collected all the Heart Pieces in OoT. I do remember how I never actually fought Majora’s Mask normally because I had Fierce Deity’s Mask.
This was supposed to be a rambling on more than video games and OoT. I was going to mention how I need to show my sister Disney movies (real ones, like Aladin, not Hannah Montana), because they’re important to kids, and are actually well made. How the music today is total garbage and there are very few talented artists that are actually recognized. How hype drives everything. I wonder how much of the stuff now I will rewatch/replay. How much of it will actually be passed down to the next generation.
Those older than me are probably going “LOL KIDDO STFU”, but I really wished I were older. I feel like I’m missing out on a lot that came before I was born, and a lot of the good stuff came from then. But I don’t wish I were older, because I would have missed Pokemon. I would have missed growing up with the internet, which also, really helped define me. Kids take the internet for granted now, but you know what? I was there, back when we had dial-up, Yahoo, and flash games. I was there.
To hell with all this, I need to level up my Charizard.
PG Astray will likely be finished this weekend. For all of you people that come here even though I haven’t posted anything in nearly half a month…STAY TUNED ;D
