HGUC Unicorn Gundam [Unicorn Mode]

Here we have the completed Unicorn Gundam. Gave it an enamel wash using Testor’s enamels. I wanted to use grey instead, but I didn’t have that on hand, and the jar of white wouldn’t open I completely forgot about the bazooka, so it’s just plain gloss coat on top of paint. I flat coated it at the end, but my airbrush kinda clogged up halfway through, so I spent more time fixing that than coating it. I don’t really notice the difference though.

I couldn’t clean up the wash too well. I switched from using cotton swabs to a paper towel with a bit of mineral spirits. I can do the lines pretty well now where it’s like this: |_|, or when it’s like this ____|, where the paint goes where the right angles are, but if it’s not really a right angle like __/ it’s a lot harder for me. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

The shield’s still not quite done, because of the earlier mess-up with the shading. The shading’s sort of alright now, maybe I should have used grey instead, but oh well. It looks kind of dirty, so I _MIGHT_ end up making a diorama for it (not that I’m any good at that).

HGUC Unicorn Gundam: WIP 2-Fail shading

After reading an old old guide on dannychoo, I tried to shade my Unicorn Gundam. Since it’s an HG, I thought it would be appropriate to test stuff on. Then again, if I don’t try something new every now and then, there’d be no improvement.

I tried it on the shield, and then it turned out far too heavy, so I stripped that down, and will repaint it with the white parts of Astray (because I’m lazy and don’t like cleaning my airbrush an extra time).

Basically the process is to thin a paint out a lot and spray it very carefully around the edges. I sorta over sprayed it here and there, and whenever my hand stopped to go in the opposite direction, I’d get some blotches. I used the same colour I had for the joints and stuff. In retrospect, I should have used enamels or lacquer. Enamels because I know enamels come off easily with mineral spirits if I mess up. But I don’t want to put EVERY SINGLE KIND OF PAINT through my airbrush, because then it feels cheap. Sorta like a “whore”, because I’m using so many different kinds of…yeah. nvm.

PS. I also fail at taking pics, because the shading hardly shows up in pics. Trust me, it’s really obvious in real life. It looks like it rolled through the desert or something.

HG Unicorn Gundam: WIP 1 – Painting Runners

Primed and painted the pieces directly on runner, just to try it out, and because I left my nippers and knife in Waterloo. Had a lot of Olive Drab leftover from my SR-71, so I decided to use it and mix it with some other colours for the navy and grey.

I found that painting white on white is very difficult. I can barely tell if I actually sprayed it or not, which really sucks. Maybe next time I’ll grab some grey primer instead.

I also need an SLR. Dad’s point and shoot doesn’t give me enough settings to play with, and they’re all buried too deeply .
